About For His Children
For His Children (FHC) is a Christ-centered ministry providing quality care to vulnerable and orphaned children in Ecuador who have experienced abandonment, abuse, or neglect. Through your support, FHC provides a home for children and young adults with normal and special needs, ranging in age from newborn to young adult. FHC’s two campuses in Quito and Latacunga are warm, bright, and welcoming.
Why For His Children?
In the Summer of 2017, I shared with a former colleague of mine, that I was researching to take a service based trip. In a total serendipitous exchange, I learned that his family has an adopted son from Ecuador and every year they return to the orphanage as a family to volunteer and give thanks. I’m not sure if I invited myself or if the invitation was extended but in December of 2017, I traveled to Quito, Ecuador and stayed at the orphanage, For His Children.
My time spent at For His Children was an incredible learning experience. Seeing first hand how the children were cared for, loved, and supported completely erased the stigma around an orphanage I had. The caregivers, who are called Tias, are still some of the most selfless people I have ever met. They truly devote time, energy, and a lot of their heart and soul in creating bonds that these children crave. Being onsite has left a lasting impression and growing interest in someday adopting.
I have so many moments that I hold near and dear but a moment that sticks out is when I got a bad case of altitude sickness (or what I think was altitude sickness) and had to take a trip to the hospital. The director of For His Children did not leave my side. She took me to the hospital, opened her home to me, and followed up with me when I got home. It just speaks volume to what their core values are and how they exercise them.
I hope to return to For His Children in the future and spend more time onsite. Until then, I love seeing updates on their Facebook and Instagram pages and plan to ask SAM to make donations in my name for SAMiversaries and birthdays.
